Chestertown serves as the city and county seat of Kent County, Maryland, US. The total area of Chestertown is 2.91 square miles out of which 0.31 square miles is water. It is home to 5,252 people. The population density of the city is 2020 people per square mile. In the 1790s, Chestertown was considered as the geographical center of the population in the whole of United States.
Although Chestertown was found in 1706, it gained importance when it was named one of the colonies of Maryland's six Royal Ports of Entry. This city became wealthy during the shipping boom at the Chester River. At the start of the mid-eighteenth century, Chestertown became Maryland's second largest port.
Riches were infused into the town that reflected in the townhouses and mansions along the waterfront. Chestertown is also the second largest city, which is home to the eighteenth-century houses. Finally, Chestertown was incorporated in 1805. It was named Chestertown because of the Chester River present here.
Like other cities in Maryland, Chestertown also has a humid subtropical climate. People living here also experience warm temperatures and heavy rainfall in the summer.
